Pre-league season ends undefeated

On a beautiful Thursday at AVCC, our ladies completed the "home and home" matches against  the Diablos of Mission Viejo High School, and won 191-239.  In a boldly confident move, head coach Paul Biggs went to his bench by playing three seniors in the contest.

"Knowing the depth of our roster and the MIssion Viejo team as I do," he began, "I knew I could get Kara, Emma, and Lyndsey into a home match and still come away with a big win.  I'm proud of the fact that every girl on my roster could compete against schools from this area...in fact, most girls in our program would be varsity starters at schools like Mission, Capo, and Laguna Hills.  We are that deep."

The medalist--Caty Whipple--of MV shot an impressive 3-over par, while Aliso's low score came from sophomore Lauren Chou (+5).

The final score makes the varsity team 6-0 in pre-league play, but next week the schedule toughens with two matches against perennial powerhouse--and South Coast League team--Dana Hills HS.

Season Starts Off on a Bold Note

Eight of our ladies traveled south to beautiful Marbella Country Club on Wednesday to begin the 2018 campaign and walked off the ninth green with a decisive 198-283 victory.

Despite Marbella's speedy greens and difficult chipping locations, the Wolverines played solid golf throughout the match, highlighted by Hikaru's medal-earning round of 2-over par (37).  "I am really happy to see the entire team play this well," remarked Coach Biggs after the round.  "This is a VERY competitive group of girls and I predict good things all season long."

Other notable scores included:

41: Kaitlyn, April

40: Brittney

39: Annabell

The team will play an intrasquad on Thursday @ AVCC @ 3:30 before playing 5 matches (varsity and JV) next week.

Puffer guided Aliso Niguel to its first appearance in a CIF-SS final

Jon Puffer’s journey to the top feeding spot in CIF-SS boys water polo started four years ago.

The Aliso Niguel coach, in his first season, assembled an unheralded cast of players, mostly from a little-known but growing club team.

He began an intense indoctrination into competing at a higher level, and this fall the progress couldn’t be ignored.

Puffer guided Aliso Niguel to its first appearance in a CIF-SS final. The Wolverines fell to top-seeded Oaks Christian of Westlake Village, 9-7, in the Division 3 championship, but knocked off No. 2 seed Redlands East Valley, 8-7, in the semifinals. Read more...
